- Search begins for new sponsor of the League Cup
The Football League is to begin talks with potential new sponsors for the Cup competition's flagship, the League Cup, after the period of exclusive negotiations with Carling ended without an agreement for an extended period.
Carling sponsorship of the competition began in 2003 and 9 years is one of the sports longest and most successful national (Carling leader, the Molson Coors, has sponsored the Cup since 1998). Carling will continue to sponsor the Carling Cup in the current contract until the end of the 2011/12 season.
