MANCHESTER, England
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed on Friday that he was not surprised by the decision of UEFA to hit England footballer Wayne Rooney with a three-match suspension for his dismissal against Montenegro last week.
Rooney was sent off in the second half of the clashes in Podgorica after a foul on Miodrag Dzudovic as England took a 2-2 match to secure qualification for Euro 2012.
He had to wait until Thursday to see the punishment of the UEFA Hot on whether to ban games one, two or three.
Football Association had been hoping that UEFA show leniency towards Rooney, although the planned suspension of three days would be a just punishment.
During his weekly press conference before Saturday's game against Liverpool Premier League, Ferguson said he did not answer any questions about their star striker.
However, Ferguson, who has not seen a case of Montenegro, and then broke his silence to declare that the decision of UEFA did not come as a surprise.
"I expected a three-match ban, I must admit," he said MUTV. "Send-offs in general to wear and I do not think there would be some forbearance England.
"He will miss the group matches for England, which is a blow for him and for England."
